Age: 72 going on 22.
Country of origin: Italy.
Country of residence: New Zealand.
Other countries of residence: Japan, Kenya.
Occupation: full-time retiree.
Precedent occupations: high school maths teacher, university Italian language lecturer, school director, marketing manager.
Voluntary activities: radio programme producer and presenter, TV cooking programme producer and presenter, events’ organizer, various committees’ member and president.
Personal status: wife of one and mother of another.
Since moving with my small family from Milan to New Zealand in 1996 and establishing a family business with a vineyard and winery, I started jotting down impressions, descriptions, memories. They remained piled in various drawers for many years, until three things happened: first, we sold the vineyard and retired, dedicating our time to sailing and playing Bridge; second, our A-Team of vineyard workers expressed their outrage about the new owners felling the old Lombardy poplars in our ex-vineyard; third, I entered the family of the Writers’ Circle with four stories.
Searching among the piling scribbled notes for items suitable to short stories, I discovered so many things – some of them half forgotten – that were interesting and mostly funny. With more time available during lockdown, and with the confidence that other people may like to read those ‘things’, I’ve started organizing the material into a book. The time for completion is variable, because the more I write, the more items to include come to my mind. Hopefully though, at some point the words “The End – for now” will be added, and for one year I won’t have to worry about choosing Christmas presents!
I will appreciate comments and critiques to my short stories. I can be contacted through email: laryn@xtra.co.nz
Wishing you all the very best.
