I was born in Pretoria in 1949.
After sundry jobs with banks and building suppliers, I worked as a commercial photographer in Pretoria until 2002, when I sold the business so as to retire to the Eastern Cape coast.
We have two sons, one in South Africa and one in Didcot, UK.
Once retired, we sat on the beach and drank beer and I also privately published a couple of autobiographical books for the family, and helped publish and edit a friend's book on the History of Kenton on Sea, which we sold to raise money for the local SPCA project of clearing the bush of snares.
I also sold a book of my short stories to raise money for the local care home, and am currently busy with a second volume, also for charity, as well as book of children's bush veld stories for our grandchild.
